The Florida Baptist Children’s Homes is a faith-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing Christ-centered services to children and families in need. The Children’s Homes has been serving abused, neglected and orphaned children since 1904. The Children’s Homes is an agency of the Florida Baptist Convention and is governed by a 24-member board of trustees. The Next Stepp
St. Petersburg Pregnancy Center is a pregnancy center in the south side of St. Petersburg, Florida. The center is open for pregnancy tests, counseling to keep a child or give them up for adoption. The center also has a new mom closet that will provide clothing and baby items if they go through training and counseling. The Island Chapel held the second annual Children’s Christmas Party with the Next Stepp families in 2014. The children of The Island Chapel and the children from The Next Stepp Center shared games, crafts, singing, fun, food and fellowship. Manna on Wheels’ mission is to help feed the homeless. The organization is local, and is currently working with the Hillsborough County Coalition for the Homeless. These organizations, along with several local churches, are partnering to feed the homeless in the southern and eastern sections of Hillsborough County. S.T.A.A.R. You hear about it on the nightly news and in special interet stories from around the world, but it occurs daily in communities all around us. Every year, thousands of young women are forced into sexual exploitation. Most are under the age of 18. And after they turn 18, who is there to help? S.T.A.A.R. is a confidential Christian ministry primarily focused on the practical care and mentoring of victims of abuse, sexual exploitation and human trafficking. They offer safe housing, medical, dental, legal services and more, with a staff that works closely with law enforcement to provide a bridge of communications between the victim/survivor and law enforcement. Jesus Project Ministries – A ministry that supports poverty stricken children and families still recovering from the devasting New Orleans floods. The program provides a safe, nurturing environment for children to grow and learn through the Apple Street Learning Center, with free turnoring, after school supervision, snacks, and a brown bag take home lunch program for hungry children in the community. Christian education includes a discipleship program and a Friday night youth group, providing a safe enviorment to hang out and take part in Bible study. New Hope Ministries, Haiti. is a Christian-run orphanage caring for abandoned and orphaned children in Haiti. Our Haiti Mission teams have visited this orphanage during recent mission trips. Funds are used to provide much needed food, clothing and medical supplies. Due to the location and resources, they do not have a web presence at this time.
Special International Projects
Samaritan’s Purse/Operation Christmas Child – Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God’s love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan’s Purse works with local churches and ministry partners to deliver the gifts and share the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ. Every Christmas, The Island Chapel participates in Operation Christmas Child annually. Members of the church select gifts for girls and boys ages 2 – 14 and fill plastic “shoeboxes” with those gifts. More than 180 shoeboxes, along with funds to cover shipping were sent to Samaritan’s Purse for distribution for Christmas, 2013.
